Nevada Events & Festivals
Nevada Festival Calendar 2026
An experimental city in the Black Rock Desert. The world's greatest poker tournament. The largest EDM festival in North America. Nevada operates at a scale that matches its wide-open landscape.
Nevada's events are a direct reflection of the state's fundamental personality: go big or go home. Burning Man builds an 80,000-person city from nothing in an alkali flat, then erases it completely. EDC sets up stages the size of aircraft hangars in a motor speedway. The World Series of Poker awards more prize money in a single tournament than most countries' GDP. Even the Great Reno Balloon Race — free, family-friendly, in a park — deploys 100+ balloons simultaneously. Everything in Nevada seems to operate at a scale you don't expect until you're standing in the middle of it.

Nevada's Top Festivals & Events
From the Black Rock Desert to the Las Vegas Strip — Nevada's events calendar has no equivalent anywhere in the country.
Burning Man
The most discussed temporary city on earth — 80,000 people build Black Rock City in a remote Nevada desert for a week of radical self-expression, art installations, community, and participation. Burning Man is not a music festival, not a rave, not a concert — it's an experiment in temporary community built around ten core principles including radical self-reliance, gifting, and civic responsibility. The Man burns on Saturday. The Temple burns on Sunday. The art is extraordinary. Tickets sell via lottery ($575 main sale); plan 12 months ahead. Camping required. No spectators — only participants.
Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas
The largest electronic music festival in North America — 500,000 attendees across three nights at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Carnival rides, elaborate stages the size of buildings, over 200 artists across nine stages, and a production scale that has to be seen to be believed. EDC is genuinely overwhelming in the best way. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is far from the Strip — Insomniac runs shuttles from designated hotel pickup spots. Tickets $399–600 for 3-day passes. Base camping available on-site.
World Series of Poker
The most prestigious poker tournament in the world runs for over seven weeks at Paris Las Vegas. Over 100 individual events, culminating in the Main Event — the $10,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em championship that draws 8,000+ players and awards a first prize of $10+ million. You don't have to play to attend — railbirding the Main Event final table is electric, and satellite buy-ins start at just a few hundred dollars. The WSOP transforms the poker rooms into genuine arenas during the Main Event.
National Finals Rodeo
The Super Bowl of professional rodeo — the NFR brings the top 15 contestants in each of seven rodeo events (bull riding, bareback, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, barrel racing) to Las Vegas for 10 consecutive nights of performance. The Thomas & Mack fills with 17,000 country fans every night. The entire Strip goes country for two weeks: cowboy hats at the Bellagio, Western wear boutiques pop up everywhere, and the Gold Coast hosts the Cowboy Christmas Gift Show across 400,000 square feet daily.
Great Reno Balloon Race
The largest free hot air balloon event in the world — free. Dawn Patrol on Saturday morning sends a handful of balloons aloft before sunrise with glowing envelopes lighting up the pre-dawn sky. The mass ascension at 7:30am lifts 100+ balloons simultaneously. No tickets required; just show up before dawn. Reno in September is excellent — desert warmth, clear skies, and the balloon race is a genuine spectacle even if you've seen balloon festivals before.
Nevada Day Parade
Nevada became a state on October 31, 1864 — and Carson City celebrates with one of the oldest and largest parades in the West. The Nevada Day Parade through downtown Carson City draws 30,000+ spectators for floats, marching bands, historic vehicles, and a celebration of the Silver State's heritage. Free to attend. Carson City is 30 miles south of Reno — easily combined with the state capital and Nevada State Museum. The Halloween timing adds appropriate flair.
Las Vegas Film Festival
Las Vegas has an underappreciated arts scene centered on the Arts District on South Main Street. The Las Vegas Film Festival screens independent and international films at various venues in the city, with stronger programming than you'd expect from a city better known for spectacle. Individual screenings around $12; festival passes available. Combine with the First Friday art walk in the Arts District for a different side of Las Vegas.
Reno Aces Air Racing (National Championship Air Races)
The National Championship Air Races — "the world's fastest motorsport" — ran in Reno for 57 years before going on hiatus and then restructuring. Vintage aircraft race at 400–500 mph around pylons just feet off the desert floor in front of 60,000 spectators. The roar of WWII-era Mustangs and Bearcats at race speed is unlike anything else. Check current scheduling — the event has reorganized in recent years but remains on the Reno events calendar.
Scott's Nevada Festival Tips
Tickets are lottery-based (main sale in January/February). Camping gear, water, food, and costume planning takes months. The desert is brutal — alkali dust destroys electronics, temperatures swing from 100°F to 45°F in one day. First-timers should read the Burning Man Survival Guide before committing.
The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is far from the Strip. Insomniac's shuttle from Strip hotels is reliable but crowded. On-site camping (EDC Camping) lets you walk from tent to stages in 10 minutes — it's a significantly better experience. Book camping at the same time as your 3-day pass.
You don't need to play poker to attend the World Series. The Main Event final table at Paris Las Vegas is open to spectators. Early rounds can also be watched from the rail. If you want to play, $1,500 buy-in bracelet events are where value lies — the $10,000 Main Event is a significant commitment.
National Finals Rodeo tickets ($45–200) sell out fast. But the Cowboy Christmas Gift Show at the Convention Center — 400,000 sq ft of Western vendors — is free to attend and runs daily during NFR week. The entire Las Vegas Strip goes full Western: cowboy hats at the casino buffets, country bands in every bar.
Dawn Patrol launches before sunrise — glowing balloon envelopes in the dark are the most beautiful part of the entire event. The mass ascension at 7:30am is spectacular but more crowded. Arrive by 5:15am for Dawn Patrol, then stay for the main ascension. Rancho San Rafael Park, admission and parking free.
The Black Rock Desert (Burning Man, late August) can hit 100°F midday and 45°F overnight. Las Vegas in May (EDC) is 90°F+ during the day. Both require serious hydration planning — a gallon of water per person per day minimum. Evening events in the desert in September/October cool down fast; bring a jacket to everything.

Burning Man tickets are sold via an online lottery system, typically with a main sale in January/February and a directed group sale for camps. Visit burningman.org for current year's sale dates. Main sale tickets run $575 (plus fees) for the standard tier. The event sells out every year. First-time Burners should also join a theme camp — attending solo without infrastructure experience is significantly harder.
Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas is a 3-day electronic music festival at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in May, produced by Insomniac Events. It's the largest EDM festival in North America with 500,000+ attendees across 3 nights. 3-day passes run $399–600 and go on sale 6+ months in advance. On-site camping (EDC Camping) is recommended over shuttling from hotels — it eliminates the commute and creates a full festival community.
Yes. Spectators can watch play from the rail area at Paris Las Vegas during the WSOP, which runs late May through mid-July. The Main Event final table in July draws the largest crowds and is the most exciting to watch. The Rio casino (former venue) and Paris both host bracelet events in different rooms. You can also buy into satellites (lower buy-in tournaments feeding into main events) starting at a few hundred dollars.
The NFR runs the first two weeks of December at the Thomas & Mack Center at UNLV. 10 consecutive nights of professional rodeo — the top 15 contestants in each of 7 disciplines compete. Tickets ($45–200 per night) go on sale through Ticketmaster and sell out months in advance. The surrounding events — Cowboy Christmas Gift Show (free), cowboy bars across the Strip, Western-themed casino promotions — are part of the experience even without arena tickets.
Yes, completely free. The Great Reno Balloon Race at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park runs for 3 days in early September, and admission, parking, and all viewing areas are free to the public. Dawn Patrol (pre-sunrise balloon glow) launches around 5:45am — arrive by 5:15am. The mass ascension at approximately 7:30am sends 100+ balloons aloft simultaneously. Vendors and food available on-site. One of the best free events in the western United States.
Every season has major events. May brings EDC Las Vegas and WSOP kickoff. August-September brings Burning Man, the Great Reno Balloon Race, and air races. October brings Nevada Day in Carson City. December brings the National Finals Rodeo. Las Vegas also has a year-round residency and concert schedule that makes any month viable. The best weather for outdoors is October–April; May–September in Vegas can hit 110°F+ midday.
