Everyone thinks they know Nevada. It's Vegas, right? Casinos, shows, buffets. That's what I thought too, until we drove 45 minutes from the Strip and found ourselves standing in Valley of Fire at sunset, surrounded by 150-million-year-old red sandstone that looked like it belonged on Mars. That's when I realized Nevada has a secret life.
Don't get me wrong — I love Vegas. But I love the Vegas that locals know. The off-Strip taco joints. The speakeasy bars hidden behind unmarked doors. The restaurants where the food is world-class but the dress code is "whatever you're wearing." The best of Nevada isn't on the billboard. It's around the corner from it.
And then there's the rest of the state. Lake Tahoe's water is so clear it looks fake. Virginia City is a Wild West time capsule. Great Basin National Park has some of the darkest skies in America. I find these experiences while Scott handles the driving logistics and hotel comparisons.
