One Writer, One Desert, Endless Roads
I'm Scott — a Southern California guy who drove to Las Vegas on a whim one weekend and never stopped going back. The Strip at night changed something in me. Then the Valley of Fire did it again. Then Lake Tahoe. Then a lonely stretch of Highway 50 through the basin-and-range country at sunset. What started as weekend road trips turned into an obsession with this state's landscapes, history, and small towns. This site is everything I've learned — the real version, not the brochure version.
I work in healthcare IT. I'm not a travel blogger or influencer — I'm a guy who plans trips obsessively and finally decided to put it all somewhere useful. Nevada grabbed me the way some places just do. The first time I stood at the rim of Red Rock Canyon at sunrise, I understood why people get emotional about desert landscapes. The first time I drove through the Valley of Fire at dawn, I pulled over and just sat there for twenty minutes.
I've driven thousands of miles across this state — the interstates, the loneliest roads in America, the mountain passes above Lake Tahoe, the old mining-town switchbacks around Virginia City. I've hiked in summer heat that nearly broke me and watched snow fall on the Sierra Nevada in January. I've eaten at legendary Vegas buffets, splurged at Strip resorts, and camped under more stars than I knew existed in Great Basin National Park.
Discover Nevada exists because I got tired of generic travel content. The "Top 10 Things to Do in Vegas" lists that all say the same thing. The sponsored hotel reviews. The articles clearly written by someone who spent one afternoon on the Strip and called it a day. I wanted to build the resource I wished I had when I first started exploring — real prices, real logistics, honest opinions, and an AI trip planner that actually knows the difference between Las Vegas in March and Las Vegas in August.
The People Behind the Pages
Healthcare IT professional by day, Nevada travel obsessive by every other waking moment. Based in Southern California. Has driven every major highway and most of the back roads across Nevada. Loves the neon, the desert, the ghost towns, and the feeling of a two-lane highway with nobody else on it. Built Discover Nevada because the resource he wanted didn't exist yet.
Born in the Philippines and based in San Diego. Cultural explorer who brings personal storytelling and sensory detail to Discover Nevada. The one who explores beyond the Las Vegas Strip to find the real Nevada — the ghost town diners, the Lake Tahoe locals' spots, the Reno arts scene — and brings the warmth that turns a road trip through the desert into a story worth sharing.
What You'll Never Find Here
I built this site because I got tired of Nevada travel content that's secretly a press trip recap or a sponsored casino review dressed up as honest advice. Discover Nevada exists because I wanted the resource I wished I had when I first started exploring this state.
